The Suva under-11 team commenced the 2024 McDonald’s Talent Development Inter-District Championship with an impressive 3-0 win over Dreketi on the tournament’s opening day at the Nasinu Muslim Primary School grounds.
Head coach Ritesh Ram praised the team’s performance, highlighting the results of two months of rigorous preparation. While he was pleased with the victory, Ram noted areas needing improvement, particularly in midfield attacking.
“We have been preparing for this IDC for two months, and our first game against Dreketi showcased our hard work,” Ram stated. “It was a fair match, not too tough, but we will need to push harder as this is just our first game, and we have other challenging teams ahead.”
Ram acknowledged that the midfield attack was lacking during the match against Dreketi and emphasized the need for further development in that area. He highlighted the importance of ongoing effort as tougher challenges await in the tournament.
He also applauded the opportunity for the players to face off against teams from other districts, recognizing the valuable learning experience it provides for the young athletes. Ram dedicated the victory to the players and their parents, expressing gratitude for their support during the preparation for the competition.
The age-group matches will continue at the Nasinu Primary School Grounds today, with finals scheduled for tomorrow.
