Suva Touch Rugby Association Kicks Off Exciting New Season!

The Suva Touch Rugby Association officially launched its 2025 season at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in Suva. This year, the competition adopts a round-robin format across both men’s and mixed teams, a shift from previous years where teams were grouped into separate pools for matches. The tournament kicks off every Saturday over the next nine weeks as part of preparations for an upcoming international tournament scheduled for November.

Jalesi Young, the association’s president, expressed excitement about the season’s commencement and noted a noticeable increase in participant numbers. He emphasized the importance of this competitive platform, stating that it creates opportunities for local athletes while fostering community engagement through sport. He also acknowledged the contribution of officers from the Fiji Corrections Service, who participated in the season’s opening by engaging with youth and emphasizing the positive influence of sports on decision-making and community involvement.

The collaborative spirit seen at the event not only bolsters the participation of local youth but also aligns with broader efforts among various sport associations in Fiji to uplift local talent and promote active lifestyles. This initiative reflects a commitment to use sports as a conduit for community cohesion and youth development.

With strong community support, the Suva Touch Rugby Association aims to contribute to the sports sector’s growth in Fiji, illustrating how sports can serve as a unifying force and a platform for future generations to shine.
