The FMF Suva rugby senior team is brimming with confidence as it prepares for its next challenge in the Skipper Cup competition against Lautoka at Bidesi Park in Suva. This anticipated match, scheduled for today, comes on the heels of a successful opening round where Suva triumphed over Ba.

The Suva squad is strengthened by the introduction of three debutants—Josateki Seru, Viliame Rasau, and Joji Vusoniyasi—alongside seasoned Fiji Sevens players Terio Tamani, Sakiusa Siqila, and Tira Wilagi, all of whom are expected to make a significant impact. Team manager Ulaiasi Butukoro emphasized a focused and structured preparation leading up to this match, highlighting the collaboration and teamwork among the players.

“We’ve been concentrating on our on-field structures, and the boys have worked together excellently. Now, we look forward to round two,” Butukoro stated. With Lautoka being well-acquainted with the Skipper Cup—having performed admirably in recent seasons—Suva anticipates a strong contest. Butukoro expressed enthusiasm for a competitive match, noting that they plan to engage their fans by delivering an exciting performance.

The match for the senior teams is set to kick off at 3 PM, with the U20 teams clashing earlier at 1 PM. In other Skipper Cup action, Nadi will take on Macuata at Prince Charles Park, with the senior game starting at the same time. Additionally, Malolo will host Ba for the first time ever at Yawini Park at Mana Island.

As the Skipper Cup unfolds, the spirit of competition and community involvement resonates strongly, with fans eagerly supporting their teams. The growth and development of local rugby talent reflect the broader aspirations of the sport in Fiji, creating an environment ripe for exciting matchups and promising narratives throughout the season.
