The Rotaract Club of Suva recently presented an ultrasound system to the anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. This significant donation was organized by Dr. John Salmon, a Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at the Fiji National University, alongside Clifford Smith from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd, who provided logistical support.

Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead for the ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed his appreciation for the ultrasound machine, emphasizing its vital role in enhancing patient care not only in the ICU but across various departments in the hospital’s east wing. Margret Savou, the president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate capacity constraints and improve services for patients.

Earlier this year, the Rotaract Club, under the leadership of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, contributed additional vital medical equipment, including a respiratory monitor and other monitoring devices. Last year, they also supplied another ultrasound system specifically for the obstetrics and gynaecology department.

Established on October 23, 1970, by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva is the oldest in the South Pacific. The club encourages individuals aged 18 and older to engage with community leaders, develop professional skills, and enjoy meaningful service activities.

This initiative reflects the spirit of collaboration and community support, showcasing how collective efforts can lead to significant improvements in healthcare services. With continued contributions, the potential for better patient outcomes and the enhancement of medical facilities in Fiji remains promising.
