The Rotaract Club of Suva recently donated an ultrasound system to the anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. This generous contribution was initiated by Dr. John Salmon, a Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at Fiji National University, alongside support from Clifford Smith, a representative from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
During the handover, Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the ICU clinical lead at CWM Hospital, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, stating that this essential equipment would significantly benefit patients in the ICU and other departments in the hospital’s east wing.
Margret Savou, president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, emphasized that this donation is part of an ongoing initiative to enhance the hospital’s capacity to serve its patients effectively. She acknowledged that this achievement was made possible through collaborative efforts among various stakeholders and highlighted the crucial logistical support provided by Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
Earlier this year, under the leadership of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, the club contributed additional medical equipment, including a respiratory monitor and various monitoring devices. The Rotaract Club had also facilitated another ultrasound system for the obstetrics and gynecology department last year.
Founded on October 23, 1970, by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva holds the distinction of being the oldest Rotaract club in the South Pacific. These clubs serve as a platform for individuals aged 18 and above to engage with community leaders, hone their leadership and professional skills, and contribute to society through service.
This important donation not only highlights the continuous efforts of the Rotaract Club to address healthcare needs but also reinforces community collaboration in enhancing local medical facilities. Such initiatives offer hope for improved healthcare services in the region, ultimately benefiting countless patients in need.
In summary, the Rotaract Club of Suva’s ongoing contributions demonstrate the impactful role of community service in the healthcare sector, fostering collaboration and support for essential medical resources.
