The Rotaract Club of Suva recently donated an ultrasound system to the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. This generous contribution was facilitated by Dr. John Salmon, a Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at Fiji National University, alongside local Rotaractor Clifford Smith from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead of the ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed his heartfelt appreciation upon receiving the essential equipment, noting that it would significantly benefit not only the ICU but also various other departments within the hospital’s east wing.
Margret Savou, president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, highlighted that this donation is part of an ongoing commitment to help the hospital overcome capacity challenges and improve patient care. She acknowledged the vital support from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd. in making this handover possible.
Earlier this year, under the leadership of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, the club provided additional medical equipment, including a respiratory monitor and other crucial tools. Last year, the club also assisted in delivering another ultrasound machine to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Founded on October 23, 1970 by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva holds the distinction of being the oldest Rotaract club in the South Pacific. The organization aims to unite individuals aged 18 and older to share ideas with community leaders, develop leadership skills, and engage in fun, service-oriented activities.
This initiative exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and community service, underscoring the positive impact that local organizations can have on healthcare facilities and the communities they serve. As the Rotaract Club continues its efforts, it not only enhances medical care but also inspires others to contribute to the welfare of society.
