Businesses in Suva are enhancing their security measures with the recent addition of 20 CCTV cameras that are being directly connected to the Totogo Police Station. This initiative is confirmed by the Suva Retailers Association, which has partnered with the Fiji Police Force to reinforce safety across the capital city. According to Association President Jitesh Patel, while there were some challenges in coordinating with various stakeholders, they are encouraged by the progress, particularly as the festive season approaches.
Patel highlighted that, “We have 20 plus that we have put up so by this week all will be connected to Totogo. We are running a cable that will be connecting them to police.” This proactive approach aims to bolster security in a timely manner, with community safety being a high priority for both the Retailers Association and the Fiji Police Force.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu echoed the sentiments of collaboration, urging municipalities and retail organizations across Fiji to unite efforts in enhancing safety and security. He confirmed that the operations center remains effective and is actively monitoring all cameras linked to it. “The operation center is well and good, and we are monitoring all cameras connected to us,” said Tudravu.
In addition to Suva’s current initiatives, discussions have been held with municipal administrators nationwide to explore further improvements in public safety. Commissioner Tudravu emphasized that public safety is the Fiji Police Force’s foremost objective, calling for collective action to ensure community security.
This enhanced focus on surveillance and crime prevention comes at a crucial time as Fiji seeks to create a safer environment for both residents and businesses, especially with the busy holiday season on the horizon. The steps taken by the Suva Retailers Association and the Fiji Police Force not only aim to address immediate concerns but also strive to foster long-term security and confidence within the community.
