Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume in August, as reported by Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The port handled 8,815 containers in July, which rose to 9,658 containers in August, marking a difference of 843 containers, according to the company’s CEO, Hasthika Dela.
In August, Suva Port welcomed 23 container vessels. In contrast, Lautoka Port reported a decrease in container volume, with 6,937 containers recorded in July and a drop of 346 containers in August.
Mr. Dela noted that global ports face significant challenges due to geopolitical tensions affecting trade, labor shortages, rising costs, supply and demand imbalances, as well as environmental and regulatory changes.
During August, Suva Port saw the arrival of various vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. Lautoka Port, on the other hand, received 18 container vessels along with two wheat bulk carriers.
