Suva Port Sees Container Volume Surge: What’s Driving the Growth?

In August, Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume, according to data from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The port recorded 8,815 containers in July, which rose to 9,658 in August, marking a difference of 843 containers, as noted by the company’s CEO, Hasthika Dela.

During August, Suva Port welcomed 23 container vessels. In contrast, Lautoka Port’s container volume saw a slight decline, dropping by 346 containers from July’s total of 6,937.

Mr. Dela commented on the global challenges facing ports, including geopolitical tensions affecting trade, labor shortages, rising costs, supply and demand mismatches, as well as environmental and regulatory changes.

Notably, Suva Port’s arrivals in August included two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. Lautoka Port received 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers during the same month.
