Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume in August, according to data from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The volume rose from 8,815 containers in July to 9,658 in August, marking an increase of 843 containers. Chief Executive Officer Hasthika Dela noted that 23 container vessels arrived at Suva Port during August.
Conversely, Lautoka Port reported a decline in container volume, with 6,937 containers recorded in July and a decrease of 346 containers in August. Dela pointed out the challenges global ports are facing, including geopolitical tensions affecting trade, labor shortages, rising costs, and environmental regulations.
In August, Suva Port welcomed various vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. Meanwhile, Lautoka Port saw the arrival of 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers.
