Suva Port Sees Container Volume Surge Amid Global Trade Challenges

Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume during August, according to data from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The port recorded a volume of 9,658 containers in August, up from 8,815 containers in July, marking a difference of 843 containers. Fiji Ports Terminal Limited’s CEO, Hasthika Dela, noted that 23 container vessels arrived at Suva Port in August.

In contrast, Lautoka Port recorded a slight decrease in container volume, with 6,937 containers in July and a reduction of 346 containers in August. Dela highlighted that global ports are facing significant challenges, including geopolitical tensions affecting trade, labor shortages, rising costs, and environmental regulations.

In August, Suva Port received various types of vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy ship. Lautoka Port welcomed 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers during the same month.
