Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume in August, as reported by Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The volume rose from 8,815 containers in July to 9,658 in August, showing a difference of 843 containers, according to CEO Hasthika Dela.
During August, 23 container vessels docked at Suva Port. In contrast, Lautoka Port saw its container volume decline from 6,937 in July to a decrease of 346 in August.
Mr. Dela highlighted that global ports face significant challenges due to geopolitical tensions impacting trade, labor shortages, rising costs, supply and demand imbalances, and regulatory changes.
In August, Suva Port welcomed a diverse fleet that included two car carriers, one clinker vessel, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. Lautoka Port, on the other hand, hosted 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers during the same month.
