Suva Port experienced a rise in container volume for August, reaching 9,658 compared to 8,815 in July, according to Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The CEO, Hasthika Dela, noted an increase of 843 containers between the two months, with 23 container vessels arriving in August.
In contrast, Lautoka Port recorded a slight decline in container volume, with July figures at 6,937 and a decrease of 346 in August. Mr. Dela highlighted that ports worldwide face significant challenges due to geopolitical tensions affecting global trade, labor shortages, rising costs, supply and demand mismatches, and environmental regulations.
During August, Suva Port welcomed various vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. In Lautoka, 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers arrived during the same month.
