Container volume at Suva Port saw an increase in August, with figures from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited indicating a rise from 8,815 containers in July to 9,658 in August. The difference amounted to 843 containers, according to Hasthika Dela, the chief executive officer of Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. In total, 23 container vessels docked at Suva Port in August.
Conversely, Lautoka Port experienced a decrease in container volume, reporting 6,937 containers in July, which fell by 346 to a total of 6,591 in August. Dela noted that global ports are facing significant challenges due to geopolitical tensions affecting international trade, labor shortages, rising costs, imbalances in demand and supply, as well as changes in environmental regulations.
In August, Suva Port welcomed various vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and one Navy vessel. At the same time, Lautoka Port received 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers.
