Suva Port experienced an increase in container volume in August, according to reports from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited. The port recorded a total of 9,658 containers in August, an increase from 8,815 containers in July, resulting in a difference of 843 containers, as noted by CEO Hasthika Dela.
In August, Suva Port welcomed 23 container vessels, while Lautoka Port saw a slight decrease in container volume, recording 6,937 containers in July and a reduction of 346 containers in August.
Dela pointed out that global ports face challenges due to geopolitical tensions, which affect trade, labor shortages, rising costs, imbalances in supply and demand, and changing environmental regulations.
During August, Suva Port received various vessels, including two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship, and a Navy vessel. Meanwhile, Lautoka Port accommodated 18 container vessels as well as two wheat bulk carriers during the same month.
