A bouncer involved in a violent altercation at a nightclub in Suva was taken into police custody early yesterday morning. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that law enforcement has begun to apprehend several individuals connected to the incident and is actively searching for more.
Driu urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow the police to perform their duties. He expressed his concerns about rising tensions, particularly noting the need for calm among those expressing their frustrations on social media. “All those making threats on social media need to stay calm. Emotions are still high at the moment, and we are calling on parties involved to try and remain calm. Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything; it will only make things worse,” he stated.
In the ongoing investigation, officers from the Totogo Police Station have been gathering testimonies from people involved in the brawl as well as witnesses, with efforts continuing into the following day. Driu called on all parties to cooperate with the police and provide any relevant statements and evidence, emphasizing patience as the investigation progresses.
Police are also monitoring social media activity related to the case to prevent further escalation. As the New Year approaches, Driu assured the community that the police would remain vigilant to ensure everyone’s safety.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and the need for community cooperation with law enforcement. The police’s proactive stance in investigating and addressing public concerns is a positive step towards restoring safety and order in the community.
