Three men have been apprehended in Suva for the alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs, specifically believed to be methamphetamine, during separate incidents on Thursday and Friday. The arrests occurred at various locations, including Votualevu, Grantham Road in Raiwaqa, and Belo Street in Samabula.
The initial arrest took place on New Year’s Day along Grantham Road, where a 30-year-old man from Nanuku Settlement was reportedly found with multiple zip lock bags containing a white substance presumed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, authorities uncovered smoking paraphernalia, dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, and cash believed to be the proceeds of drug-related crimes.
The second arrest involved a 25-year-old man in Votualevu, who was allegedly discovered with clear plastic bags containing a similar white substance thought to be methamphetamine. In a separate incident, a 37-year-old man from Makoi, Nasinu, was arrested on Friday, also in possession of a zip lock bag with the same substance.
All three individuals are currently in custody as the seized drugs are sent for analysis. Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, emphasized that ongoing investigations into drug-related offenses will specifically target the proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth. This initiative aligns with the directive from Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, aiming to disrupt the financial aspects of the drug trade and safeguard public welfare from its dangers.
The proactive measures being taken by law enforcement highlight a commitment to tackling the drug issue in Fiji, promoting a safer community for all.
