Suva Medics Clinch Thrilling Title at Inter District Championship!

Suva Medics emerged victorious in the second edition of the Wellness Medics Inter District Championship (IDC) held last weekend at the Uprising Sports Centre in Pacific Harbour. This two-day event was a celebration of soccer, drawing participants from the Fijian medical community, including teams from the Ministry of Health, Aspen, and various private sectors.

The tournament showcased exciting matches, culminating in a thrilling final where Suva Medics claimed the championship title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Labasa Medics. Registered Nurse Aman Asneel Prasad from CWM Hospital scored the decisive goal, leading Suva Medics to their first title of 2024 after they finished as runners-up in the previous year’s competition.

Throughout the tournament, a total of nine teams participated, divided into three from the Northern Division, four from the Western Division, and two from the Central Division. The competition highlighted the dedication and sportsmanship of all teams, with four advancing to the knockout rounds. Notable semi-finals included Labasa Medics securing a 3-0 win against Max Nadroga Medics and Suva Medics’s RN Nitin Lal shining in a tense penalty shootout against Lautoka Aspen.

In addition to the fierce competition, the tournament also celebrated individual achievements. Dr. Rishwan Khan from Lautoka Aspen earned the Golden Boot for being the top scorer, while RN Ravinesh Singh from Labasa Hospital received the Golden Glove for only conceding two goals. The Best Player award recognized Dr. Divneet Chand from Labasa Hospital for his exceptional performance, and Dr. Mark Rokobuli was honored as the Most Disciplined Player of the Tournament, highlighting the values of respect and integrity.

Organizing Committee President Dr. Neeshil Varman expressed his gratitude to the various supporting organizations, including Aspen Medical and the Ministry of Health, for their logistical assistance. The committee’s efforts contributed significantly to the success of this year’s event.

Looking ahead, Labasa will host the next year’s tournament, with details about the date and format to be announced soon. This event not only reinforces the bonds within the medical community but also promotes health and wellness through the spirit of sports.
