Suva’s annual running event has received a significant boost as the Motibhai Group has stepped in as the official sponsor for the 10-kilometre race at this year’s Suva Marathon. During a signing ceremony held at their Walu Bay head office, the company presented a $15,000 cheque to the Suva Marathon Club while also acquiring naming rights for the popular race under the Rexona brand.
Payal Kritika, the Motibhai Group’s marketing team leader, emphasized that this partnership represents their commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and fostering stronger community ties. “We’re here to celebrate an exciting partnership that is all about energy, community, and coming together for something bigger than ourselves,” Kritika noted.
Marita Manley, co-founder of the Suva Marathon Club, reflected on the incredible growth of the event, which started with just 250 runners in 2014 and now attracts thousands from Fiji and abroad. She encouraged everyone—walkers, runners, and beginners—to participate, calling the race a celebration of unity and health.
The Suva Marathon Club has previously garnered support from various local organizations, showcasing a united community effort towards health and fitness. For instance, Munro Leys has been providing sponsorship since the marathon’s inception in 2014, involving employees in the race and volunteering. Such collaboration fosters a fun, inclusive atmosphere while promoting active lifestyles among participants.
The 2025 Suva Marathon is scheduled to take place on September 6, commencing at 6 AM from Albert Park. It’s an event not only aimed at competitive runners but also welcomes individuals of all fitness levels, reinforcing that every effort counts, whether in pursuit of personal bests or simply completing the race.
Suva Marathon club ambassador Yeshnil Karan, who recently won double gold at the Pacific Mini Games, encourages runners to start training and share in this journey. “See you at the starting line,” he motivated participants.
With increasing support from local businesses, the Suva Marathon is not merely a race but a symbol of community resilience and health promotion, providing opportunities for individuals to come together, build relationships, and strive for wellness goals.
This year’s emphasis is not just on competition, but on the shared experience of striving for a healthier lifestyle, fostering a strong sense of community, and celebrating individual successes. It is a hopeful reminder that collective efforts towards health and fitness can inspire long-lasting change.
