Suva Futsal concluded the 2024 season on a high note by successfully defending their title in the Extra Supermarket Inter-District Championship, securing a decisive 6-2 victory over Lautoka during the grand final held at Vodafone Arena. This latest triumph, combined with their earlier win in the Futsal League, solidifies Suva as the top futsal team in the nation.

The match saw impressive performances from Suva’s players, with Krishneel Singh and Aman Naidu each scoring twice, while Deepal Singh and Justin Kumar added to the tally with one goal each. For Lautoka, Aporosa Yada stood out by scoring both of his team’s goals and emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with a total of 13 goals.

Head Coach Vivek Nadan expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the resilience shown by the players after a previous loss in pool play against Ba. He conveyed confidence in his team’s ability to rebound, stating, “We told the boys it was better to lose a match in pool play rather than the eliminations and go out.” Following their semi-final win against Nadi, Nadan felt assured that the final was within their grasp.

In the women’s category, Rewa Futsal claimed the Women’s Futsal IDC title by securing overall points, marking another highlight of the tournament.

The award winners for the 2024 Extra Supermarket Futsal IDC have been announced, showcasing a range of talents. In the women’s category, Nasinu Futsal received the Fair Play Award, while Adi Litia Bakaniceva from Rewa Futsal took home the Golden Boot Award, along with Maria Veronika winning the Golden Ball Award and Emily Esposita clinching the Golden Glove. For the men’s category, Lautoka Futsal earned the Fair Play Award, with Aporosa Yada (Lautoka) receiving the Golden Boot, Nikil Chand (Suva) winning the Golden Ball, and Kitione Baleloa (Suva) awarded the Golden Glove.

This exciting season reflects not only the competitive spirit and talent exhibited by the teams but also the growing interest in futsal as a sport in the region. As Suva and Rewa celebrate their achievements, fans can look forward to more thrilling competitions in the future.
