Suva Futsal concluded the 2024 season on a high note, successfully defending their Extra Supermarket Inter-District Championship title with an impressive 6-2 victory over Lautoka in the final held at Vodafone Arena. This remarkable win not only solidified their status as champions but also marked their retention of the Futsal IDC title, bolstering their earlier success in the Futsal League.
The standout performances came from players Krishneel Singh and Aman Naidu, each netting two goals, while Deepal Singh and Justin Kumar each contributed one goal to the scoreboard. Lautoka’s two goals were scored by Aporosa Yada, who distinguished himself as the tournament’s top scorer with an impressive tally of 13 goals.
Head Coach Vivek Nadan expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially in their ability to bounce back from a previous loss to Ba during pool play. “I am really happy with the win today. They recovered very well, and once we stepped into the final, we knew it was ours,” Nadan stated.
In addition to Suva Futsal’s success, Rewa Futsal emerged as champions of the Women’s Futsal IDC by collecting the overall points title.
The tournament also recognized outstanding individual performances. In the women’s category, the awards went to Nasinu Futsal for the Fair Play Award, Adi Litia Bakaniceva of Rewa Futsal for the Golden Boot, Maria Veronika (also from Rewa Futsal) for the Golden Ball, and Emily Esposita of Nasinu Futsal for the Golden Glove. In the men’s category, Lautoka Futsal took home the Fair Play Award, Aporosa Yada secured the Golden Boot, Nikil Chand of Suva Futsal won the Golden Ball, and Kitione Baleloa, also from Suva Futsal, received the Golden Glove Award.
This season’s success for Suva Futsal serves as a testament to their resilience and determination, highlighting their position as the leading team in Futsal in Fiji. Their performance showcases the spirit of sportsmanship and competition in the country, leaving fans hopeful for even greater achievements in the future.
