Suva FC displayed an impressive comeback in the Digicel Super Women’s League by drawing 3-3 with Tailevu Naitasiri, despite being down 3-0 at halftime. The match took place at the Fiji FA grounds in Vatuwaqa.

In the first half, Tailevu Naitasiri took a commanding lead with three goals scored by Timaima Ana, Ana Naivukivuki, and Katarina Nailele. However, the second half saw a revitalized Suva team, as Penelope Pickering and Alisi Qereqeretabua found the net, leveling the score and securing a hard-fought draw.

Tailevu Naitasiri’s head coach, Elvis Goundar, expressed disappointment regarding certain referee decisions but acknowledged his team’s effort. He pointed to the need for improvements in their defense, citing the difficulty in preserving their lead. Goundar also highlighted the dedication of both the players and their parents, especially noting that many players were balancing their commitments with exam week.

“I would like to thank the parents for allowing their girls to come out to play during this busy time,” he said. Goundar praised Suva as a tough competitor and emphasized the importance of resilience moving forward.

This match not only showcased the competitive spirit of women’s football in Fiji but also highlighted the support systems around the players, including their families. Such commitment underscores the growing interest and investment in women’s sports, which is a promising sign for future seasons.

In summary, the game revealed the exciting potential of both teams and the enthusiasm surrounding women’s football, fostering hope for stronger performances in upcoming matches.
