RAVINDRA’S Transport Suva football is eager to end a 30-year title drought as they prepare for the 2025 Extra Battle of the Giants tournament, which kicks off today at Subrail Park in Labasa. This tournament’s return to Labasa after a decade has generated considerable buzz among fans and players alike.
Team president Nitin Singh expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation, noting that they have been training diligently for both the Extra Premier League and this prestigious tournament. “Our preparation is going well. We wrapped up our Extra Premier League match last week, and now we are fully focused on the Battle of the Giants,” Singh remarked.
In their opening match, Suva faces Nadi, a team historically known for their competitive edge in this tournament. Singh acknowledged the challenge ahead but remains confident in his players’ ability to deliver their best performance. “This will be tough, but the boys are ready to fight,” he added.
Since taking over the club last year, Singh has been dedicated to rebuilding Suva FC to its former glory, aiming to reverse the fate that saw them demoted from the Fiji FACT. “The goal has been set. It has been 30 years since Suva last won the Battle of the Giants tournament, and we are committed to changing that narrative,” he stated.
Suva has previously found success in Labasa, having won the Fiji FACT at the same venue in 2020. Singh emphasized that the familiar ground offers a happy advantage for the team as they embark on this journey.
The Suva football community is rallying for support, urging fans to keep the team in their prayers as they seek victory in the tournament. The team’s opening match is scheduled for 12 PM today against Stratum Construction Nadi, with Suva placed in pool B alongside Navua and Rewa.
The excitement surrounding the tournament not only embodies hopes for Suva’s success but also reflects a larger community spirit and pride, with fans eager to witness thrilling matches in Labasa. The community’s backing could play a crucial role in uplifting the team’s morale as they strive for triumph.
As the tournament unfolds, there is optimism that this could be the year Suva breaks its long-standing title drought, reigniting passion for football within their supporter base.
