The fire that destroyed the Defence Club in Suva earlier this year has been classified as arson. Puamau Sowane, the chief executive officer of the National Fire Authority, confirmed this conclusion in a statement yesterday, announcing that the investigation into the incident has concluded.
“The investigation report indicates that, based on the origin and source of the fire, it has been determined to be arson,” Mr. Sowane stated. The investigation file has now been submitted to the Fiji Police Crime Office.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa confirmed the receipt of the file. “We will review the investigation report from the NFA, identify the point of origin, and proceed from there,” Mr. Waqa added.
