Thousands of commuters heading into Suva City will soon enjoy a safer and more convenient travel experience, as the major upgrade of the Suva Bus Station approaches completion. The rehabilitation project, initiated in February 2025 through a partnership between the Suva City Council (SCC) and the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), aims to transform this busy transport hub while minimizing disruption.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the SCC, Tevita Boseiwaqa, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, noting that the work has been carried out in phases with a focus on addressing persistent issues such as flooding and hazardous road conditions. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring better public transport infrastructure in the city.

“People will no longer have to deal with the poor drainage and dangerous road conditions that have been a problem for so long,” Mr. Boseiwaqa stated, highlighting the positive impact the upgrades will have on daily commuters. He also acknowledged the FRA for their essential role in the project, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in executing these improvements.

Completion of the rehabilitation will bring much-needed enhancements to the Suva Bus Station, which serves thousands of commuters each day. With the completion deadline now in sight, there’s an optimistic anticipation for improved safety and comfort among residents and commuters alike.

This upgrade not only tackles existing infrastructure challenges but also represents a broader commitment from local authorities to foster a more user-friendly public transport system. As construction approaches its conclusion, the community can look forward to a significant enhancement in their everyday travel experiences.

Overall, these developments offer a hopeful perspective on the future of public transport in Suva, reflecting an ongoing dedication to bettering the commuter experience for all.
