The Suva Blue women’s volleyball team has made a significant mark in the Fiji Volleyball Vanua Championship 2025 by successfully defending their title, clinching a 3-0 victory against Kinoya Green in the final match held last Saturday at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
The match showcased Suva’s determination and skill with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-23, demonstrating their resilience throughout the contest. Head coach Emori Bakewa expressed pride in the team’s performance, especially considering the absence of some key players who failed to meet selection criteria. “I had to come up with a lineup that balanced both defense and attack. The girls played with heart and trust in each other. I always tell them from day one that ‘every game is our final,’ and they showed that today,” Bakewa said.
This victory for Suva Blue not only highlights their current dominance in women’s volleyball but also underscores the growing competitiveness of the sport in Fiji. Similarly, in the men’s final, Raiwai 1 secured the championship by overcoming Nasinu Blue with a score of 3-1, indicating a strong performance by local teams across both categories.
As these teams continue to excel, they inspire a new generation of athletes and reinforce the spirit of sportsmanship in Fiji. The achievements at the championship bode well for the future of the sport, fostering hope and excitement among fans and aspiring players alike.
