Flick Hygiene Suva FC settled for a 2-2 draw against Navua in round 15 of the Digicel Premier League, held at Uprising Sports Centre in Navua.
The match featured a strong offensive display from both teams during the first half, with Navua initially taking the lead due to an own goal by Suva’s Waisake Navunigasau. Suva quickly equalized and then surged ahead thanks to Gacame Peni, who scored two goals, ending the first half with Suva leading 2-1.
Navua made a comeback in the second half, with Simione Damuni scoring in the 50th minute to level the match and secure a draw by the final whistle.
Suva’s head coach, Babz Khan, acknowledged the impact of missing their national team goalkeeper but commended the team’s effort, especially considering the challenging field conditions that favored passing football, leading to their first-half goals.
Khan also recognized Navua as formidable opponents and expressed contentment with the draw. He mentioned, “The match was great; we were missing our goalkeeper who is with the national team, but that did not hinder our performance today. The boys played well despite the ground conditions being wet and not ideal, yet we managed to play a passing game which led to our two goals in the first half.”
With a two-week break approaching, Suva intends to work on areas for improvement, especially in finishing, to come back stronger for the rest of the season. The team requires four more points to secure their place outside the promotion-relegation zone and remains committed to their growth and the hard work necessary to meet their objectives.
