Pacific Recycling Foundation and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited have begun talks on a significant collaboration focused on promoting sustainability in the fields of recycling and agriculture. The initiative aims to address issues related to plastic waste management while enhancing organic farming practices.
Recently, The Fertile Factory & Company Limited launched BulaBioBrew Soil, a natural and organic liquid fertilizer designed to improve soil biology and boost plant health. Packaged in PET bottles, BulaBioBrew Soil provides a chemical-free method to enhance soil diversity and balance.
To further sustainability, PRF is examining methods to recycle these PET bottles after the fertilizer is utilized. The discussions include the potential implementation of a deposit system that would incentivize the collection, reuse, and recycling of the bottles, preventing them from polluting the environment or contributing to landfills.
Amitesh Deo, founder of PRF, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to collaborate with The Fertile Factory & Company Limited on a project that could set a precedent for Fiji. He stated, “If this collaboration progresses, it will support our efforts to reduce plastic waste by ensuring that PET bottles used for packaging BulaBioBrew Soil are captured through our recycling programs. This initiative will contribute to a cleaner environment while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.”
Another aspect being considered is the potential for PRF’s sustainability initiative, Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant, to trial BulaBioBrew Soil on its farms, which already operate under a farm-to-table model. This pilot program could showcase the benefits of organic fertilizer and underline the importance of recycling plastic waste in agriculture.
Sanjeev Chand, Chief Executive of The Fertile Factory & Company Limited, shared optimism about the collaboration, saying, “We are pleased to begin exploring collaboration with Pacific Recycling Foundation. BulaBioBrew Soil has the potential to revolutionize the way farmers care for their soil, and by working with PRF, we hope to ensure that the PET bottles we use for packaging do not harm the environment. While these are early discussions, we see a lot of promise in developing a system that encourages recycling and supports sustainable farming practices.”
Although the discussions are in their early phases, the collaboration between PRF and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited could lead to innovative solutions that marry organic farming with effective plastic waste management.
