The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), together with the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, has initiated a collaborative project this Diwali aimed at promoting sustainable practices among consumers. This initiative is designed to heighten awareness of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives, encouraging responsible consumer behavior.

Through this partnership, the two organizations will disseminate regular messages that advocate for actions such as minimizing waste, conserving energy and water, making ethical purchasing choices, and adopting environmentally-friendly practices. They aim to foster a platform that emphasizes the crucial role of sustainability during this festive time.

Joel Abraham, CEO of FCCC, expressed that the collaboration illustrates their commitment to creating an inclusive, ethical, and eco-conscious marketplace for the people of Fiji. He highlighted the importance of accommodating the cultural and religious desires of consumers while promoting sustainable celebrations during Diwali.

Dhirendra Nand, the National President of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the partnership reflects a joint dedication to ESG goals. He stated that this initiative serves as a platform to raise awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inspire the community toward a more sustainable future.

The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha focused on the significance of utilizing the Diwali celebration as an opportunity to highlight environmental stewardship and nurture sustainable practices alongside spiritual reflection. Nand emphasized the aim to motivate ongoing positive transformations that extend beyond the festive period, advocating for sustainability and responsible consumption at all times.

This initiative not only highlights the innovative approach to celebrate Diwali but also reinforces the commitment of Fijian organizations to environmental awareness, making it a beacon of hope for a sustainable future in the region. By aligning cultural celebrations with sustainability efforts, the initiative serves as an inspiring model for other communities to follow.
