Pacific Recycling Foundation and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited have begun talks on a potential collaboration focused on promoting sustainability in both recycling and agriculture. This initiative aims to address issues related to plastic waste management while also improving organic farming practices.

Recently, The Fertile Factory & Company Limited launched BulaBioBrew Soil, a natural, organic liquid fertilizer intended to enhance soil biology and plant health. BulaBioBrew Soil is packaged in PET bottles, providing a chemical-free means to enhance soil diversity and balance.

As part of its recycling efforts, PRF is investigating methods to collect these PET bottles once the fertilizer has been used. The discussions include the implementation of a deposit system designed to incentivize the collection, reuse, and recycling of the bottles, thus reducing their environmental impact and preventing them from ending up in landfills.

PRF Founder Amitesh Deo expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that it could mark a significant development for Fiji. Deo stated, “If this collaboration progresses, it will support our efforts to reduce plastic waste by ensuring that PET bottles used for packaging BulaBioBrew Soil are captured through our recycling programs. This initiative will contribute to a cleaner environment while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.”

Another aspect of the discussions is the potential for PRF’s sustainability branch, Malhana Cloud Kitchen Restaurant, to test BulaBioBrew Soil on its farms, which already follow a farm-to-table model. The goal is to see if this pilot can illustrate the benefits of organic fertilizer while emphasizing the importance of recycling plastic in agriculture.

Sanjeev Chand, Chief Executive of The Fertile Factory & Company Limited, shared a positive outlook regarding the discussions. “We are pleased to begin exploring collaboration with Pacific Recycling Foundation. BulaBioBrew Soil has the potential to revolutionize how farmers manage their soil, and by partnering with PRF, we aim to ensure that our PET packaging does not negatively impact the environment. Although these talks are in their early stages, we see considerable potential in developing a system that promotes recycling and supports sustainable farming practices.”

While still in the initial phase, the discussions between PRF and The Fertile Factory & Company Limited could lead to an innovative solution that combines organic farming with responsible plastic waste management.
