Sustainability Advocate Crowned Miss Continental Oceania 2024

Sunishma Singh was honored as Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old, who is both a sustainability advocate and entrepreneur, expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent not only Fiji but the entire Oceania region.

“This title is a platform for me to further advocate for climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment globally,” Ms. Singh stated. She emphasized the seriousness of her new role and her intentions to use this recognition to highlight important issues within Fiji and the wider Pacific community.

Ms. Singh credits her academic achievements, entrepreneurial experiences, and commitment to sustainable tourism for this accomplishment. “I have always believed in leveraging every platform to uplift causes I am passionate about, and this pageant has allowed me to showcase both the beauty of Fiji and my dedication to sustainability,” she remarked.

Throughout the competition in Taiwan, she longed for the comforts of home, including familiar home-cooked meals. Despite this, she appreciated being surrounded by remarkable women from around the globe, each bringing their own perspectives and strengths.

Ms. Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography along with a Postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific. She currently serves as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji and manages her own business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is available in over 65 supermarkets across Fiji.

“In addition to my professional responsibilities, I am committed to championing sustainable practices, extending my advocacy into environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she stated.

Her path has been marked by both obstacles and triumphs, particularly her early struggle to balance her studies with work commitments. “I was determined to excel academically while building a career focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship,” she noted.

During the same pageant, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines was named the beauty queen, winning the title of Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
