“Suspended DPP Tribunal Hearing Extends: What’s Next?”

The tribunal hearing for the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde is expected to last at least two weeks. The hearing is set to take place from August 19-30.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Chair and Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo confirmed that Mr. Pryde has been notified. “The tribunal has already begun its work from February 2024 and had several pre-hearing meetings with the DPP’s counsel,” Mr. Temo stated. “The tribunal report will be forwarded to His Excellency the President on or before September 24, 2024.”

A further complaint against Mr. Pryde has been referred by the JSC. This complaint alleges that Mr. Pryde received unlawful payments of benefits under his contract, amounting to approximately $288,999.13.

The DPP is appointed under section 117(30) of the Constitution by the President on the recommendation of the JSC, following consultation with Attorney-General Graham Leung. Mr. Pryde was suspended last April over alleged misbehavior following a meeting with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. This suspension was in accordance with Chapter 5, Part A, Section 112 (4) of the Constitution.
