“Suspended DPP Faces Tribunal Hearing Spanning Two Weeks”

The tribunal hearing for the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde will last for at least two weeks, scheduled from August 19-30.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Chair and Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo confirmed that Mr. Pryde has been notified. “The tribunal has already begun its work from February 2024 and had several pre-hearing meetings with the DPP’s counsel,” Mr. Temo said.

The tribunal report will be submitted to the President on or before September 24, 2024.

Additionally, the JSC has referred another complaint against Mr. Pryde, alleging that he received unlawful payment of benefits under his contract, amounting to approximately $288,999.13.

The DPP is appointed under section 117(30) of the Constitution by the President on the recommendation of the JSC after consultation with Attorney-General Graham Leung. Mr. Pryde was suspended last April over alleged misbehavior following a meeting with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. The suspension was in accordance with Chapter 5, Part A, Section 112 (4) of the Constitution.
