“Suspended DPP Faces Extended Tribunal Hearing”

The tribunal hearing for the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Pryde will span at least two weeks.

The hearing is set to take place from August 19-30.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Chair and Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo confirmed that Mr. Pryde has been notified.

“The tribunal began its work in February 2024 and held several pre-hearing meetings with the DPP’s counsel,” Mr. Temo said.

“The tribunal’s report will be submitted to His Excellency the President on or before September 24, 2024.”

Additionally, the JSC has referred another complaint against Mr. Pryde.

This complaint alleges that Mr. Pryde received unlawful payment of benefits under his contract, totaling approximately $288,999.13.

The DPP is appointed under section 117(30) of the Constitution by the President on the recommendation of the JSC, following consultation with Attorney-General Graham Leung.

Mr. Pryde was suspended last April over alleged misconduct following a meeting with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

The suspension was in line with Chapter 5, Part A, Section 112 (4) of the Constitution.
