Suspended DPP Demands Action from President After Tribunal Report

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions in Fiji, is urging the President to provide an update on the Tribunal Report that examined allegations of misbehavior against him. In his communication to Joeli Ditoka, the Official Secretary to the President, Pryde pointed out that the report was delivered to the President on December 23, 2024. He has expressed his request for a copy of the report, having been directed to reach out to the President’s office for it.

Pryde’s letter highlights key provisions within the Constitution, specifically section 112, which mandates that the report be made public and indicates that the President must act on the Tribunal’s recommendations. He stressed that if the report reveals insufficient evidence of misconduct, his suspension should be lifted immediately, and he would expect to be reinstated as DPP.

The ongoing suspension has had financial implications for Pryde, making the resolution of the matter urgent. He has formally requested that the President informs him of the report’s outcome, provides him with a copy, and publishes it, alongside reinstating his salary and other entitlements if the allegations are found unsubstantiated.

This situation reflects larger issues regarding transparency and accountability within governmental processes in Fiji, as the outcome of the report could shape both Pryde’s career and public trust in the judicial system.

Overall, it is hoped that a swift resolution will be achieved, benefiting not only Pryde but also reinforcing the integrity of the prosecutorial framework in Fiji.
