A suspect faced serious allegations after a confrontation with police last night at the Nadonumai Roundabout when officers discovered illicit drugs in his vehicle. The Fiji Police Force reported that the vehicle was stopped at the roundabout, leading to the involvement of the K-9 Unit, which aided in locating a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves, suspected to be marijuana.
Subsequent searches at the suspect’s residence uncovered a zip-lock bag filled with loose dried leaves believed to be marijuana. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu, drug-related arrests are a daily occurrence, and police efforts to combat drug offenses will intensify during the festive season.
“During this time, we are focused on targeting individuals suspected of drug-related activities,” ACP Driu stated. He emphasized that law enforcement will be vigilant, carrying out checks at known drug locations and monitoring vehicles and vessels as they operate throughout the holiday period.
The police are determined to continue their surprise checks to uncover illegal activities and urge the community to join them in this ongoing battle against drugs. At present, the suspect is being held at Lami Police Station as investigations continue.
In a time when communities are preparing for holiday celebrations, this proactive stance by the Fiji Police Force is encouraging. Their commitment to ensuring public safety and combating drug-related issues reflects a dedication to maintaining a secure environment for all. It is hoped that increased vigilance during this period will deter illegal activities and promote a safer festive season for everyone.
