The Suva City Council is enhancing its community outreach initiatives by collaborating with Drug Free World advocate Olivia Tawake to raise awareness about drug abuse and HIV/AIDS among young people at Raiwai Courts this week. This engagement aimed to educate youths on the severe and enduring consequences of drug use, a pressing issue that continues to impact families and communities throughout Fiji.

During the event, Tawake shared her personal story, providing a heartfelt account of her experiences with addiction. As a recovered individual, she now advocates for prevention and recovery, urging young people, especially teenagers, to make informed choices that safeguard their health and futures. Tawake stressed that a single decision could lead to life-altering consequences.

Council representatives underscored the necessity for continuous dialogue and community participation as vital components in protecting the youth and fostering a healthier next generation. As these efforts unfold, they reflect a commitment to nurturing a supportive environment for young people, promoting healthier lifestyles, and raising awareness about the risks associated with drug use. Such community-led initiatives promise to empower young individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to make positive choices.
