This was a central theme at the Global Surveyors’ Day event held recently, where the Fiji Institute of Surveyors Council brought together experts, policymakers, and professionals to discuss innovative ways to approach the ongoing climate crisis.
At the event, Jitendra Singh, the President of the Fiji Institute of Surveyors, expressed his pride in the profession and acknowledged the significant contributions made by surveyors to national development. Paula Cirikiyasawa, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Lands, reiterated the essential role of surveyors in national development. She pointed out that their work is increasingly crucial in addressing global challenges, urging a collective effort in mitigating the impacts of climate change on the nation.
Previously, during discussions surrounding the Fiji Institute of Surveyors Congress, experts highlighted the need for continual adaptation and skill enhancement within the surveying profession. This includes utilizing modern technology and innovative practices to tackle emerging issues such as climate change, urban planning, and land management.
As the Fiji surveying community continues to embrace technological advancements and innovative solutions, there is a hopeful outlook for addressing these pressing challenges. By enhancing their skill sets and leveraging new methods, surveyors are not only contributing to their profession but also to the greater good of the Fijian society, paving the way for sustainable development amid changing environmental conditions.
