The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters recently conducted intensive two-day surge operations across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This significant exercise engaged various units within the Operations Unit, including the Traffic Unit, K-9 Unit, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and even the Fiji Police Band.

During the operations, the Traffic and K-9 Units carried out random checks on vehicles, while Crime Stoppers reached out to high schools as part of their Scholastic Program. The Tourist Police visited local hotels along the main thoroughfares, and the Water Police participated in community awareness efforts alongside Community Policing teams.

The Fiji Police Force Band entertained the public at selected locations, enhancing community engagement. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe stated that the unexpected nature of the exercise surprised many, and it highlighted some pressing issues, including vehicles with expired wheel tax, overloaded passengers, and instances of drug detection by the K-9 teams.

SSP Vusonilawe emphasized that these awareness operations would persist as a reminder for everyone to adhere to the law, especially as the festive season approaches. He expressed the intention to promote safety within the community, reinforcing the vital role of police presence and cooperation with the public.

This proactive initiative by the Fiji Police demonstrates their commitment to ensuring community safety and upholding the law, fostering a sense of security as the country moves into the upcoming festive celebrations.

In summary, the surge operations served a dual purpose: enforcing traffic regulations and enhancing community safety awareness, ultimately aiming for a safer festive season for all citizens.
