The Fiji Police Force recently conducted a significant two-day operation across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative involved a coordinated effort from various units within the Operations Unit, including the Traffic, K-9, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and the Fiji Police Band.

During the operation, officers conducted random vehicle checks, focusing on ensuring road safety and compliance. The Crime Stoppers team engaged with high school students as part of their Scholastic Program, while the Tourist Police visited hotels along primary routes to enhance safety awareness for visitors. The Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to promote community awareness, and the Fiji Police Force marching band entertained at selected locations, fostering community spirit.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe noted that the operation took many drivers by surprise, revealing instances of expired vehicle registrations, overloaded passengers, and some drug detections through K-9 units. He emphasized that the operation served as a valuable opportunity for police to connect with stakeholders and address ongoing community concerns.

SSP Kasiano confirmed that these awareness initiatives will persist, aiming to remind the public of their responsibilities under the law, especially as festivities approach. The police’s proactive approach reflects their commitment to public safety and community engagement.

In summary, this operation not only reinforced road safety but also fostered community relations, ensuring a safer environment for all citizens and visitors as Fiji enters its festive seasons. This positive engagement from law enforcement can inspire increased cooperation from the community while promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
