A recent surge operation in Fiji’s Northern Division has resulted in multiple arrests related to the unlawful possession of illicit drugs. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that these efforts are bolstered by specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, which aim to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement initiatives.
ACP Driu emphasized the importance of disrupting the drug supply chain, prioritizing the targeting of distributors, conducting farm raids, and executing follow-up operations. He noted that increasing community involvement and information-sharing has played a crucial role in the success of these raids, reflecting a growing public support for combating drug-related issues.
During the latest operation, five men, aged between 20 and 30, were apprehended, alongside the recovery of items suspected to be stolen. Ongoing investigations aim to unravel more about the operations of local drug networks.
This crackdown illustrates a concerted effort by law enforcement to tackle drug-related crime, reinforcing community safety and collaboration. It is hopeful that these operations will lead to a significant reduction in the drug supply and contribute to creating a healthier environment for all residents.
The community’s involvement in supporting these initiatives is crucial, signaling a united front against illicit activities and fostering a safer, drug-free society.
