A recent report from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions unveiled a concerning trend in non-sexual violence offences, with several individuals facing serious charges. Among the notable incidents, a 40-year-old man has been accused of assaulting his 38-year-old wife, while another case involves a 38-year-old man charged with assaulting a 41-year-old woman, both categorized as causing actual bodily harm.

In a separate alarming incident, a 49-year-old man is facing charges for intentionally causing grievous harm after allegedly stabbing a victim in the back with scissors during a dispute. Additionally, a case involving a 41-year-old man accused of assaulting another man with intent to inflict grievous harm was discontinued due to the victim being unreachable.

The report also highlights a trend in burglary and theft. A 17-year-old and a 19-year-old have been charged in connection with a burglary and theft incident. Furthermore, two men, aged 34 and 29, have been charged with aggravated burglary after allegedly breaking into Tilak High School in Lautoka, where they reportedly caused significant damage to school property. In another burglary at Kids First Kindergarten in Suva, two 19-year-old men are accused of stealing various school supplies and furniture.

Overall, there were 21 people charged with a total of 27 counts of non-sexual violence offences during November, including serious charges such as murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, and burglary. Out of these charges, 13 victims were reported, with two of the accused being juveniles.

This troubling rise in violent and criminal behaviour underlines an urgent need for community awareness and preventive measures to address the underlying issues. Nevertheless, such incidents also serve as a reminder of the resilience of law enforcement efforts to tackle violence and crime. Through increased vigilance and community cooperation, there’s hope for a safer environment.

In summary, the statistics reveal a concerning pattern of non-sexual violence that calls for immediate attention from both authorities and communities alike.
