Former Social Democratic Liberal Party MP Tanya Waqanika has reiterated her strong support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s efforts to enhance his parliamentary backing with the aim of amending the 2013 Constitution. Speaking to FijiLive, Waqanika expressed her confidence in Rabuka’s strategic political approach, asserting that he is “politically savvy” and capable of gathering the necessary support for constitutional changes.

During a recent media conference, Prime Minister Rabuka disclosed that his Coalition Government commands approximately 70 percent of the 55 parliamentary votes, amounting to 38 seats. However, he acknowledged that this still leaves them four votes short of the 42 needed to secure the required three-quarters majority for constitutional amendments, as the opposition currently holds 16 seats.
