Support Fuels Ratu Finau’s Cricket Journey to Victory

Ratu Finau Secondary School has ventured into the under-19 men’s cricket competition at Albert Park, driven by the generosity of supporters who helped the team perform at its best.

Viliame Katina, the coach, shared insights about the team’s preparation for the week-long tournament. He mentioned that training started in Term 1, focusing on essential skills like batting and fielding.

Coach Katina expressed gratitude to the Fiji Police Force for donating cricket equipment, including bats and batting pads, which significantly enhanced their training, as the team initially lacked gear.

The journey to Viti Levu was made possible through the combined support of parents, the school, alumni, the residents of Lakeba, and Cricket Fiji. Katina noted that he had received financial assistance from overseas, including contributions from New Zealand, but emphasized that the majority of their funds came from Cricket Fiji, which played a crucial role in covering their expenses during the tournament in Suva.

Ratu Finau Secondary School is set to compete against John Wesley College today at 12:30 PM at Albert Park One.

In other tournament results, Moce Secondary School triumphed over Cricket Fiji’s invitational team by 44 runs, Ba Provincial Freebird Institute defeated John Wesley College by five wickets, Cicia High School won against Nabua Secondary School by three wickets, and Ratu Finau Secondary School emerged victorious over Suva Grammar School by 20 runs.
