Two individuals have been remanded at the Suva Remand Centre following their alleged involvement in a robbery at Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach on Monday. Sosiveta Raura, 51, and Leone Lesumailepanoni, 43, each face four counts of robbery and appeared before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
During the proceedings, the magistrate decided to transfer the case to the High Court in Suva. Both accused were arrested on the same day as the robbery. They understood the charges against them, and the first phase of disclosures was presented to them. Both individuals indicated their intention to secure private legal representation.
The case has been adjourned until next Thursday. Police have confirmed that a third suspect was interrogated and subsequently released. The investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly brandished cane knives to threaten supermarket employees before escaping with stolen cash and goods in a taxi, which was located just an hour later in Tacirua Heights.
Despite the serious nature of the crime, the swift actions of the police in locating the getaway vehicle demonstrate the commitment to public safety and the efficiency of law enforcement in the area. This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and support for local businesses facing criminal threats.
