New Zealand’s Sunny Morini secured the NZPBC welterweight title with an impressive second-round knockout against Fiji’s Mohammed Ali during the Stratum Construction Zeg Kings Boxing promotion, held in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The decisive punch from Morini landed squarely on Ali’s cheek, leaving him unable to rise during the referee’s count.
Ali stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Jese Ravudi, a challenge he accepted despite having limited preparation time. Although he delivered some punches and was met with cheers from supporters, Morini proved too strong in the ring.
In addition to Morini’s victory, several noteworthy bouts took place during the event. Junior Abhay Chand suffered a second-round knockout loss to Isikeli Senidoko, while Andrew Maloney claimed a TKO win against Pawan Kumar after the referee halted their Super Bantamweight match. In another fight, Felise Nabua experienced a loss to Rohit Rohit from India when the fight was stopped due to a thrown towel in the sixth round.
In heavyweight action, Fiji’s Semi Dauloloma demonstrated his prowess with a knockout against Savenaca Tuiratu in the second round. Other notable results included Aarti Hoodha’s points victory over Laite Nanovu and Kimo Vakalalabure’s win against Rev Anand on points. New Zealand’s Larnce Claerk also emerged victorious by TKO against Senivalati Ratu after the referee stopped the contest. Ilikimi Saudromedrome triumphed over William Korocawiri on points.
This event exemplifies the growing enthusiasm for boxing in the region, with several emerging talents showcasing their skills, contributing to a revitalized culture in the sport in both Fiji and New Zealand.
