During the tribunal hearing of suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh testified that he was not aware of the nature of the conversation between Pryde and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Singh revealed that he provided a photo to Justice Minister Siromi Turaga that showed a third individual conversing with both men at an official Japanese function.

When asked by Justice Anare Tuilevuka to identify this third person, Singh admitted he did not know who they were, explaining that the photograph was taken by staff from the Japanese embassy. He observed that Pryde and Sayed-Khaiyum engaged in a serious discussion for over 30 minutes and noted that their demeanor suggested the conversation was quite serious, as he did not see them laughing or enjoying themselves amidst the official event.

Singh also mentioned that lawyer Hemendra Nagan had informed him that it was inappropriate for a DPP to be conversing with Sayed-Khaiyum, who was then under investigation. The hearing continues, with Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo expected to testify soon.

This case highlights important discussions about the interactions between high-ranking officials amidst ongoing investigations. As the tribunal unfolds, it provides an opportunity for greater clarity regarding professional conduct and ethical standards within the government. The continued pursuit of justice, even through unsettling circumstances, reinforces the importance of accountability and transparency in public office.

In summary, Charan Jeath Singh’s testimony sheds light on the controversial interactions involving Christopher Pryde and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, contributing to a dialogue about the integrity of public service.
