The review leading to this amendment was conducted by Food and Agriculture Consultants Poonyth Daneswar and Jolly Lindsay.

This move reflects a positive step toward enhancing the governance of the sugar industry, ensuring that those directly involved have a say in the matters that impact their livelihoods. By reinstating democratic processes within the Sugar Cane Growers Council, the government aims to foster a more inclusive and responsive environment for sugar cane growers.

This initiative may signify a commitment to the sustainability and vitality of the sugar industry, which is vital to the economy and employment within the region.

Summary:
The government will soon present the Sugar Industry (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Parliament after Cabinet endorsement. The Bill aims to reinstate the election process for the Sugar Cane Growers Council, ensuring that the views of sugar cane growers are duly represented and considered.
