Style Fiji raises substantial funds for Fiji Cancer Society Western and St John Ambulance at Denarau fashion show
Proceeds from the Style Fiji 2024 fashion show at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Denarau have been distributed to two key health charities. The Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) Western branch received 62,000, while St John Ambulance Fiji was given 30,000.
Style Fiji co-founder Zelda Thomas described the tally as one of the largest collections the charity event has ever recorded, noting a continued push to raise more funds each year and thanking ticket buyers for their support.
FCS Western representative Vokili Ali called the donation more than a financial gift—it’s a lifeline that will enable more cancer screenings, strengthen support for affected families, and provide greater comfort and dignity for those in palliative care. She added that behind every dollar is the story of a survivor, a caregiver, a clinician, and a child, and that the funds help ensure no one faces cancer alone and that all Fijians have access to necessary care.
St John Ambulance council chairman Dr Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui echoed those sentiments, saying the Style Fiji support has empowered the organisation to acquire new vehicles, boosting their ability to reach communities in need. He thanked Zelda Thomas and Marlene Vuniwaqa, noting their ongoing partnership and generosity.
Context and outlook
Style Fiji’s charity efforts sit within a broader network of community support for Fiji Cancer Society, including collaborations with PROJECT Bula Mai (PBM) and Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa. In 2024, PBM and Style Fiji coordinated a fundraising drive that saw a donation of about 53,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society, while Sofitel has also supported cancer-related initiatives through its ongoing partnership with Style Fiji, including a notable cash contribution to charity events.
Commentary
These continued partnerships highlight a robust and hopeful culture of local philanthropy in Fiji, where fashion, entertainment, and corporate support converge to bolster cancer care, awareness, and patient support across communities.
Summary note
The event reinforces the impact of combining philanthropy with community events to fund essential health services and logistics, such as transport for patient outreach, screenings, and family support.
