More than 500 students from Dilkusha Girls and Boys Primary School participated in an exhilarating combined inter-house competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium, reflecting a strong commitment to athletics within the institution. The event was filled with enthusiasm as parents cheered on their children competing in various track and field events.

Paiata Faga Savukiono, the Headteacher of Dilkusha Boys Primary School, expressed his delight at the students’ participation, especially at the beginning of term two. “It was a great day of competition for our students. We are glad to have them back and to enjoy this event here at the stadium,” he stated. This occasion marked a memorable first for the combined inter-house competition between the boys’ and girls’ schools, showcasing 200 athletes from the boys’ school and over 300 from the girls’.

Excitement is building as the schools prepare for the upcoming Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship in term 3. Savukiono hopes to field more than 100 athletes from both schools aimed at winning medals. He also noted the establishment of a training club in Nausori, which will work with the school to provide essential training and facilities for athletes.

The overwhelming support from parents, community members, and the Fiji Sports Council, who enabled the use of the stadium, contributed significantly to the event’s success. Looking ahead to the 2025 Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship, there is an optimistic anticipation that the hard work and community backing will yield fruitful results for the students.

This event not only showcased the athletic talents of many young students but also fostered a sense of community and school spirit. As Fiji continues to invest in encouraging and developing young athletes, there is hope for an even more vibrant sporting culture in the country.
